Mova introduces residential storage with EV charging integration

Chinese energy storage provider Mova has launched a new residential system that combines solar generation, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging management.

By the CEII Desk, from reporting by pv magazine

Key points

  • The LumeGret S5000 system integrates rooftop solar, storage, and EV charging management.
  • Storage capacities can expand up to 25 kWh using lithium iron phosphate battery modules.
  • The system supports smart charging modes based on electricity pricing and solar surplus.

System specifications

Chinese storage system provider Mova has introduced the LumeGret S5000, a residential energy storage unit designed to coordinate solar power generation, household consumption, and electric vehicle charging. According to pv magazine, the inverter features four maximum power point trackers supporting up to 4.8 kW of combined solar input.

The unit pairs with Mova's 3 kWh and 5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery modules, which are expandable to 15 kWh and 25 kWh. The manufacturer rates the modules for at least 10,000 cycles, supported by a 10-year warranty and a 20-year design lifespan. The hardware offers IP65 protection and operates in temperatures ranging from -20 C to 55 C.

Smart energy and EV management

For electric vehicle owners, the system integrates with an optional 7 kW charger. Users manage operations through the Movahome app, which handles schedules, power levels, and energy priorities.

The platform includes a smart charging mode that connects to pricing data from approximately 860 electricity providers. This allows users to configure thresholds that pause operations during expensive periods or utilize negative pricing. Additionally, a solar-surplus function automatically initiates vehicle charging when excess photovoltaic generation exceeds 500 W.

Mova has not yet disclosed pricing or commercial availability timelines for the new product range.

Context from CEII

Renewables are the fastest-growing part of the world’s energy system. The COP28 goal is to triple capacity by 2030, and solar mini-grids are the fastest route to power for millions of people without electricity.

27.8% of electricity in the world was renewable in 2021
