Pacifico Energy starts offshore surveys for Vietnam wind projects
Pacifico Energy has commenced technical surveys for two offshore wind developments in Vietnam with a combined capacity of 1.8 GW.
Key points
- Surveys cover the 500 MW Nam Bo and 1.3 GW Nam Trung Bo 3 projects.
- Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation is collaborating on the campaign.
- The developments could draw over $6 billion in total investment.
What happened
Pacifico Energy Vietnam has initiated an offshore technical survey campaign for two wind energy developments following the acquisition of sea-survey licences from Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Offshore Energy reported. The effort is conducted in partnership with Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation and begins with geophysical evaluations of seabed topography and site conditions.
The initiative targets the 500 MW Nam Bo project, which received its survey permit in February 2026, and the 1.3 GW Nam Trung Bo 3 project planned off Lam Dong Province following approval in September 2026. According to the company, these permits enable site investigations necessary for subsequent design, permitting, and financial decisions.
Why it matters
The developments are projected to attract over $6 billion in investment, generating commercial opportunities across local supply chains including logistics, fabrication, and port operations. Pacifico Energy has maintained a presence in Vietnam since 2017, operating existing solar and wind assets, and views offshore wind as a key component of its long-term strategy.
World Bank figures for 2021 indicate that renewable sources accounted for 41.2 percent of Vietnam's electricity output, while access to electricity reached 100 percent in 2024.
